What is the difference between Barbarian Professional Optics and Standard Optics?

Both Barbarian Professional and Standard Optics are precision-engineered and designed for commercial use. The main difference is how they are operated.

Barbarian Professional Optics are designed for easier one-handed use. They can be operated with your forefinger while holding the glass, making them quicker and more convenient during service.

Barbarian Standard Optics are operated by pushing the rim of the glass up against the three black prongs to dispense the measure.

If ease of operation is important to you, the Professional Optic is the preferred choice.

Barbarian Optic Sets are compatible with most 70cl and 1L bottles. 50cl bottles can also be used, provided the bottle is at least 25cm tall.

For bottles between 20cm and 25cm high, the black rubber support can be unscrewed and repositioned to the highest fixing hole on the optic arm, allowing smaller bottles to fit securely.

As outlined in our care instructions, sweet, sugary, or thick beverages are not suitable for use with Barbarian Optics.

Sugary liquids can leave a sticky residue inside the optic measure, which builds up over time. This can cause the optic to become clogged, affect its functionality, dislodge internal components, and result in leaks or inaccurate dispensing.

Examples of beverages that should not be used include Jägermeister, Baileys, Malibu, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, and other sugar-based spirits or liqueurs.

Barbarian Optics are designed primarily for spirits such as gin, rum, vodka, and whisky. Other alcoholic beverages may also be suitable, provided they have little or no sugar content and a similar consistency to these spirits. If you are unsure, we recommend checking whether the liquor contains sugar before use.

To maintain optimal performance, the optics should be cleaned regularly with Barbarian Optic Cleaner, ideally at every bottle changeover. Regular cleaning helps prevent blockages and ensures the optic continues to operate correctly and remains leak-free.

Barbarian Optic Cleaner is specially formulated to clean and sanitise optic measures, while also removing deposits that can cause the optic to malfunction.

Regular cleaning helps maintain accurate dispensing, prevents clogging, and reduces the risk of leaks. Ideally, optics should be cleaned at every bottle changeover.

  1. Mix 1 part Barbarian Optic Cleaner with 20 parts warm water.
  2. Submerge the optic in the solution.
  3. Operate the dispensing mechanism several times to draw the cleaning solution into the optic.
  4. Leave the optic to soak for at least one hour, or ideally overnight for a deeper clean.
  5. Remove the optic from the solution and drain it.
  6. Rinse thoroughly under clean running water, operating the mechanism several times during rinsing to flush out any remaining cleaner.
  7. Allow the optic to drain and dry before reuse.

No, Barbarian Optics are not designed to be disassembled for cleaning. To keep them working correctly and prevent blockages, we recommend cleaning them regularly using Barbarian Optic Cleaner & Sterilant.
